Correspondence, 1908-1966, ca. 1970-1980, 1983.

This series consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence to the board. Correspondence of a general nature precedes files on specific topics. It consists of letters from county citizens and interested parties regarding county services such as ditch cleaning, bridge and road repair, and infirmary and tuberculosis hospital care. Correspondence from the 1960s mainly concerns the operation of the welfare department and personnel problems therein. Correspondence regarding contracts and agreements is between the commissioners and numerous vendors. Much of this is with contractors doing improvements to roads and bridges. Also included are letters from groups and individuals requesting to use Veterans Memorial on Broad Street. Poor relief, Franklin County Relief Commission, housing relief, and Transient Service Bureau files pertain to aid given by the commissioners to the poor during the Depression. This money, received from both federal and state governments, was distributed to townships and cities to provide direct relief and pay for public works. Included in these files are applications to the State Relief Commission detailing aid given and requested. Surveyors' correspondence details road, ditch, and bridge work done by the county surveyor. Tuberculosis hospital files dating 1915-1928 include summarization of patients admitted and discharged from the county hospital. Files dating 1937-1938 concern an addition to the hospital, and include blueprints and promotional literature from companies submitting bids.
